Quite frankly, it is one of the most serious books on comedy that I have ever read. Thomas Nelson book publishers recently sent me a copy of Surprised by Laughter: The Comic World of C. Lewis by Terry Lindvall for review. I was not required or expected to give a positive review.

Now, Surprised by Laughter is not a new book. It was published inbut never received the publicity it deserved, and many a hardback copy. How to write a scene in which a character is shocked / surprised, without continuesly using things like 'I can't believe it', 'My eyes widen', 'My mouth falls opens', etc.

Advice I have been trying to write this scene for 3 times now, but it consistently ends up being a generic boring scene.
